Cervidil Induction Help/ Advice/ Experience???

I don't need any advise on induction or the safety of my baby please, im already past my due date and my body isn鈥檛 responding very well to this 110 degree weather we have here. So thank you any way.

I鈥檓 41 weeks, dilated 1 cm and my cervix has been 50% effaced for the past 3 weeks with no changes. I even went into the hospital last week and had the prostaglandin gel induction and it did nothing, cervix still the same. My doctor says I have one of the most stubborn cervixes he鈥檚 ever seen (I say my little girl is just happy in her mommies belly and doesn鈥檛 want to leave :) lol) but any way. Now im scheduled to go into the hospital at 530pm to have Cervidil put in over night, then start pitosin in the morning.

I鈥檓 really worried about my chances of a c-section now because of my ';stubborn cervix'; but any advice on or similar experience that they can share with me would be greatest. THANKSSS :)Cervidil Induction Help/ Advice/ Experience???
Having sex will give you the same effect as cervidil - the semen has hormones in it that are similar and help ripen the cervix. You can also eat fresh pineapple which has an enyme that causes your body to produce oxytocin (the real thing that pitocin is made to resemble).

Even if they try inducing as scheduled, there is no need for a c-section if the baby's life and your life aren't in danger. There are many women who don't induce well and just have to go into labor on their own. If it doesn't work, ask to go home and wait it out. Once you are actually in labor, your cervix will open just fine. It hasn't so far because it isn't time yet. Most pregnancies that go ';full-term'; go to 41 weeks (not the ';40'; that pregnancy is talked about). The reason for this is that most women do not have a 28-day cycle. The 40-weeks is based on a 28-day ovulation cycle. Given that, you are just now at full-term and it could be another week, if you wait.

Any time a woman is induced, her chances of a c-section increase. Partly because it's harder to handle the contractions with induction and medical pain relief is often used, which then slows down the labor and pushing is less effective when it's time.

I know it's really hard to wait and the heat is horrible. Try to stay cool by drinking lots of cold water and keep cool wet washcloths close at hand for cooling off. Go to the pool if you can - it will help with the heaviness of being 41 weeks, too.

I'm sure you and your doctor have discussed all of your options and you will do what is best for you and the baby. Congratulations!Cervidil Induction Help/ Advice/ Experience???
I was in the same position as you at 42 weeks and I was induced. I had a very normal vaginal delivery.
I had to go in and have the same thing, cervidil. They put it in around 8 or 9 at night, no complications at all throughout the night. Around 6-7 the next morning, they took it out and were amazed at how great it worked. (I was only around 1 cm before they put it in) They started petiocin and I had my little boy at 2 pm, no complications, and he is the first baby I've had. I was scaired at first because they say it had risks, but with the way they monitior you and the baby, it was fine. Doesn’t hurt at all, just made me a little tender. Don't worry, I'd never even had a contraction until after the cervidil. You hopefully wont have to have a c section. GOOD LUCK and CONGRATULATIONS
Hi!! I was, wel, pretty much in your spot nearly two years ago!! My son stayed in even thru a Katrina evac of driving in a car for 15 hours, being not at home, stressing over our home and family, and coming home to NO power (In Sept in La!!) and he was STILL one week late!!

My Ob had me go in at 41 weeks (well the night before 41 weeks) at 5 pm. I was given Cirvadil (Sp?) and allowed to walk some, pee, etc. My last meal was before I went to the hospital.

Around midnight I started contracting. I honestly do not remember when she broke my water but when she did she found meconium in the water so they had to watch for that at his birth. (meaning they had to suction his mouth BEFORE he cried to get it all out so he didn’t aspirate on it.)

I didn’t even REALIZE I was in labor, bc it was ALL back labor! I just thought I hurt from not being allowed to move and being in an uncomfy hospital bed with a monitor attached to me!! Duh. So I labored from midnight to 8 am. When I had gone in to be induced I was 4 cm and I cant remember how much effaced (u tend to forget details 2 yrs later!! LOL!) Anyho by 8 am I was only 5 cm. Yes. 5. I was like,d rugs, drugs, bring me the *^^$###%F@!@# drugs!! So I got the epidural and got the first sleep I'd had in like 24 hours.

So after that a lot was a blur. I remember being put in this funny position bc he was facing the wrong way (hence the back labor only.)

I started pushign around noon. I could feel NOTHING. Finally after 2 hours, a cut, a tear, and forceps, my son was born at 2:22pm. She was worried for awhile about a section but she knew I was absolutely against it unless our lives depended on it. So it took some work but he came out!!

I am thinking the cervidil and the pitosin will work just fine. Emergency c sections are more rare than ppl think. Your body will do what it needs to do and if u do end up needing a section, remember its just important u get your baby healthy!! If u and yoru doc are on the same page she wont give u a section unless it is life threatening.

So good luck and God bless and congrats!! Wont be long now!!

Amy

FYI: Sex only works if a woman has an orgasam--not easy when you're 41 weeks preg and there's a PERSON moving in there!! Trust me.
