thanks in advanceQuestion about RAM help/advice pls?
Hey,
Did you say 拢30? Hell no! Don't do it! :D
http://Crucial.com/uk sells a 2GB DDR2 800mhz single ram for 拢19 including V.A.T/postage and packaging! Its a promo offer at the moment, so catch it while its still there. BTW, Crucial is VERY well respected. I just upgraded another 2GB last week from them, now I have 4GB.
Crucial also has a system scan program you download and it tells you what your system can take and finds the right product for you.
And yes, to fit it in, its is VERY simple. I remember the first time I opened up the side of my PC case, I got scared I will break it. But as I looked closer, the ram is only sloted in with clips, and all you had to do was press back on them for the ram to pop out.
I installed the new ram instantly the same way it came out, it went in. (You need to press alittle harder for it to go back in to make it sucure, they clip on, you hear it, thats when its done.)
And sorry, but no such thing as external ram. But seriously, take my word for it, it REALLY is simple. It IS as easy as plug and play. As thats all your doing.
If you have a computer that you bought branded after 2006, then you definitly have DDR2 ram. And DDR2 ram from crucial for 2GB of it cost only 拢19 as I said, including everything.
About the bios thing they guy said above, you shouldn't need to do that, if its a pre-built one it will detect the ram itself. If you need any more help, just PM me and I will help you.
Hope this helps.Question about RAM help/advice pls?
RAM is placed on your motherboard. They are held in place by tabs that click forward and back which align with a notch in the RAM stick to hold it in place. They're really easy to install/remove.
You should make sure that the RAM that you buy will work in your system. Go to your motherboard's manufacturer and look up the model board that you have. They will give you specifications on what RAM will work in the system.
If you have a premade system (let a Dell) you can go to their site and look up the model information of the computer, they will general tell you what memory works.
Lastly make sure your BIOS knows about the RAM installation. After restarting go to your BIOS and make sure it displays the correct amount, and voltage it's using.
Good luck!
In addition to advice other's have given you here, please remember to check your computer's manufactorer's advice on how much RAM your computer can have, as some have upper limits. Also, do not give your computer more than 4GB RAM total if you are using windows (and possibly other OSs) as this will actually reduce the performance of your machine, to the extreme of possibly making your machine not work.
Also, RAM must be installed in pairs. Most machines have 4 RAM slots, so to get 4GB you would need 4x 1GB sticks. If the RAM stick pairs are different sizes (e.g. I have 2x 512MB and 2x 1GB), they must be in the matching pair slots (these may be colour coded. My pc's RAM slot clips are 2 white ones and 2 green ones to show which are the pairs). If the are not installed in pairs, it will again reduce your machine's performance.
Buy a good brand, generics are usually okay but I'd rather use a couple of sticks of Corsair than risk problems with cheap RAM for the sake of saving 拢5.
Crucial is a good website to check what RAM your computer can use; you can mix different brands of RAM but it's better to use matched pairs.
Installing RAM is easy, just slot it in - carefully - and make sure it's seated squarely.
