ok so i'm not an athletic person, but i have a gym course i'm in right now that i have to take to be able to graduate for high school this year. i tried really hard today, but i can't seem to do anything properly, and we're supposed to play this for the next 2 weeks or so.
i have a lot of trouble trying to serve the ball and just even hitting it in general. unfortunately i was put in a very ';competitive'; team so everyone expects me to try harder. i already have bruises on both my arms and my hands, plus someone spiked the ball at my head today. %26gt;_%26lt;
it's been a couple days since i first started and my teacher says i'll get used to it, but my arms are really red, sore, and badly bruised. i'm not allowed to sit out because i will eventually have to make it up anyway.
well sorry for being such a noob at athletics but i'd really appreciate any answers, so thank you! =)Help? Advice for first time playing volleyball?
the main thing to remember is to always be ready and stay on ur toes. keep ur hands our in front of u if u have to, its a wise choice.
the worst thing that can happen is that u r surprised on the court. ALWAYS BE READY!
for the basics, u need to learn how to volley and bump. to volley, keep ur hands into a triangle above ur forehead, bend ur knees and push into it. make it nice and high. it doesnt have to go over, just push it up (not too up or else it'll hit the ceiling!) and not directly in front u or people might crash into u trying to get it.
to bump, put one hand on top of the other with both thumbs together, bend ur knees and make the surface of ur arms very, very flat.
u dont have to swing too much, just bend ur knees and push it high. (kinda swing a little bit) if it's a hard serve/hit, then dont swing and just put ur arms there, flat. always bend down low and aim ur arms high but forward.
to serve, practice hitting the ball with ur palm hard against the flor. then throw the ball high, step with ur opposite foot, and make ur hand stiff and hit it as hard as u can.
good luck :)Help? Advice for first time playing volleyball?
You just need a practice volleyball (the cheaper the better..) and a wall somewhere. Have the volleyball 'soft' - adjust the air so that you can press your thumbs 1/8th inch into it - any sports store who sells sports balls, will be glad to adjust the ball to your requirement. First off, beginners are never told - how you do get bruising on your arms, when you first 'dig' - because your skin is not use to the impact. Wearing something to cover your arms may help. The bruising does go away after a month or so..
Anyway - with all sports - you have to 'program' yourself to do the basics in that sport, and you do this by a lot of repetition practice. Say, do spikes against a wall 50 (or 20 times). You have to be aware of how to correctly spike (use a bent elbow that straightens fast, upon contact with the ball, curl your wrist over - this adds top spin - never use your shoulder). Throw the ball up, like for a set, go forward and spike the ball. Doing this 20 - 50 times - say 3 or 4 times a week, after 2 weeks, you should be automatically spiking without thinking about it. Start slowly before doing it very fast. You don't even need a ball or wall - just practice fast elbow flicks [always start slowly, before doing it very very quickly]. Anytime anywhere. Remember the extra wrist movement to do too. Practising with a ball - gives you that confidence with your timing to hit the ball properly. Anything you can do naturally - you don't need to practice again, work on that, which you cannot do well, to improve upon.
Once the fun factor clicks in for you - in volleyball there is a variety of moves to do - and you should find you can do certain ones better than others. There is also room to add your own special moves (like, using your foot anytime except for receiving the serve) - that you will find you can naturally do... It is a fun and a funny sport - you have to be able to laugh at yourself, and at what does happen in volleyball - some funny weird stuff can happen - if you open yourself to the possibilities that can happen. Anyone who is any good - is because they have spent the time, in becoming better at it.
The laws of physics apply in volleyball - understanding these basic laws, can help you play better too. There is always strategy present, once you can do certain moves in the game - and if you play sport a lot, there is a mental discipline involved - that can help you - to not be so emotionally involved - but maintaining a happy neutral mental state, so that you can play to the best of your ability, without being so nervous - and dissipating any pressure that may be present. It is just a game, and you should treat it like that.
ouch! i that must have hurt if someone spiked u in the head! well i have been playing volleyball for a while so i can give u a few pointers:)
volleyball is more of a mental game than physical game actually. one thing u can do is being very talkative with your team mates. encourage them and stay positive. maybe come up with cheers for when u win a rally, etc.
for boosting ur actual game, try talking a vball home. go to a wall and just set it against the wall to yourself. also pass to your self against a wall. when your are playing feel confident! oh u might want to stop by a sports store to pick up some knee pads! they help a lot.
good luck and u can do it!
Okay first time playing volleyball, its gonna be difficult and i understand you on the trying to serve the ball %26gt;.%26gt; im on the freshman team and i have alot of trouble like you(ive been playing for 3years) But if i were you i would probably go somewhere like a park and practice serving.Step into it,keep your arm high, and swing hard :D. For passing grab a friend and bump it back and forth. Oh and blocking, jump up down against a wall, slap the wall with your hands like your blocking
